Moving is HARD—and we aren’t just talking about moving boxes and furniture. When it comes to moving, there is an entire checklist of things that have to happen before, during, and after your move to make sure the process flows as smoothly as possible. However, in the heat of the moment, that mental checklist can be difficult to remember, right?
Therefore, our team at Hogue Insurance Agency has compiled a list of the most important things to remember when moving! Some of these you may already know, while some you may not; however, if you master these few items during your next move, it will be smooth sailing. Most importantly, all of these tips are in one place for quick reference!
If you don’t have movers insurance, it might be a good idea to get some! When moving, it is not uncommon for items to be broken or damaged. That’s just the nature of the beast! However, with proper coverage, you can protect your belongings, which will reduce stress in the long run. We at Hogue Insurance Agency can help with this!
This goes without saying. Without an up-to-date mailing address, all of your bills and important documents won’t know where to be delivered. The easiest way to change your address is by going to the USPS website. However, that’s not the only place you may need to change your address. Trust us, you will thank yourself for this one! You can write directly on the box, or use sticker labels / masking tape to create labels. Some people even use colored markers and create a “key” as to what colors go in which rooms. There are several ways to stay organized, but we recommend finding a system and sticking to it.
Bubble wrap, shipping tape, packing paper—oh my! Nothing is worse than having to stop mid-move, right when you’ve built up your momentum, to go to the store and buy more supplies.
Here is a checklist of moving must-haves:
(Pro Tip: Sam’s Club has great, bulk prices on several of these items.)
Pro Tip: Look for boxes with handles. If you are a Sam’s Club member, you can buy Banker’s Boxes in bulk for much cheaper. Not only is this beneficial because the boxes are small and conveniently come with lids, but the boxes also have designated handles and spots for labeling. This is a perfect solution for small, heavier items that you want to keep separate.
